welcome to the acting asian podcast

how it began

“i don’t think my story is interesting.”

this is a thought which pops up in my mind constantly, and sometimes

but i catch my thought while writing this to say to myself that is not true. i wonder how many people also think this similar way, either because they feel alone in their cultural identity, their experience, their age, etc. how many people feel the same way as i do, and are looking for a space to feel heard and not alone?

acting asian is a personal project for me to showcase and highlight amazing, phenomenal people in the AAPI community, and shed light as to how amazing they are, just by living, and being who they are. from tackling cultural identity, media representation, and personal rumination., come take a seat and listen to these conversations: personal, introspective, and vulnerable.

7. generations in the making w/ michelle chan

what stories do we want to tell, especially when we think about the generations before us: our parent's, our grandparents? with michelle chan, a fellow creative (director, writer, & performer) and dear friend, we dabble into snippets of her life and on being a first-generation Asian American, and how does our family's history inform us to write and tell our own stories, which are interesting and deserve to be told?

there are many layers when it comes to a single situation, many sides of the coin, and many crevices which are hidden, or invisible. i sit with zubeda to explore some forms of visibility when we are talking about identity and representation, along with the flip side of invisibility. from queer studies to south asian representation, from kamala harris to caste-ism, sit down with us as we shed light onto what is shown and what is hidden :^)
